Here are some of my favorite sewing tips:
Sew a consistent 1/4" seam. But don't stress about it, if your a tiny bit off we can just ease the fabric into place when needed.
Chain piece. As long as you keep everything labeled nicely you can chain piece in order to keep everything running smoothly. I like to sew keeping my pairs from last week together. In the photo below you can see (from top to bottom) my C pair, my D pair, and my B/C pair, with my A square off to the left.
Don't be afraid to use lots of pins. For the smaller pieces you might not need any pins, but for the larger pieces pin at each end and then in the middle so that your fabric doesn't shift on you while sewing.
Press your seams toward the sashing. I look to do this by starting on the front side of the fabric and nudging the nose of my iron onto the sashing. Do this from each direction to press each side of the sashing flat. I then press flat from the back and again flat from the front to make sure I get a nice crisp flat seam.
Make sure to reference the fabric placement diagrams or your photos of your chosen fabric placement from last week, in order to assemble each block correctly.
Behind the Seams
I love getting to see my blocks finally come together. Here is one in progress. I just couldn't resist laying it out and getting a feel for how it was going to look.
After all my carefully chosen decisions, I can finally start to see what my quilt is going to look like. I am making the throw size, so I have a total of 9 blocks. Here they are laid out and ready to be assembled into a quilt top next week.
