What is the difference between Tech Editing and Ghost Writing?

As a tech editor I review your pattern for accuracy, clarity, consistency, math, layout, and overall readability to ensure your pattern is polished, professional, and easy to understand.


As a ghostwriter I take your quilt design and creates the written pattern—including instructions, diagrams, and formatting—so that your can focus on the tasks that your enjoy.

Why should I choose to work with you.

I am a lifelong quilter with over 20 years of experience. This means that I understand the ins and outs of quilting and know what needs to be included in quilt patterns and how to make them easy to read and follow.

I also have almost a decade of experience as a contractor auditor (accountant). This ensures that I have strong math skills, an attention to detail, and an eye for catching errors.

Tech Editing

Why do I need a tech editor

When a customers buys your pattern they except it to be free of error. I use my experience as an accountant and my knowledge of quilting to review your pattern to help ensure that it is error free.

Do I need a tech editor if I already used pattern testers?

Yes. While pattern testers provide valuable feedback, a tech editor provides a professional-level, detailed review focused on structure, grammar, math, formatting, and clarity.

How much does tech editing costs?

I charge $35 per hour and most patterns take me 2 to 4 hours. However, each pattern is different and times may vary.

How long does the editing process take?

Once I receive your quilt pattern, I will typically have tech edits back to you in 5 to 10 business days. If you need a faster turnaround please reach out to me so that we can discuss.

Ghost Writing

Why do I need a ghost writer?

You have a beautiful quilt design but don't have the time (or patience) to create the pattern. I use your design to write a professional, sellable pattern that your customers will love, allowing you to focus your energy and the tasks that you enjoy.

Will the pattern still sound like me? Does the design still belong to me?

Yes. I works closely with you to match your voice, tone, and brand. You remain the credited author.

How much does ghost writing cost?
