Hot Air Balloon Quilt Block
Share
I'm so excited to share the October Quilt Block Mania block with you. This month's theme is Fall. The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta takes place every October. While it is the world's oldest and largest hot air balloon festival, similar festivals take place all over the world.
The hot air balloon was invented in 1783 by the Montgolfier brothers, who were inspired by smoke hovering over Paris homes. Their balloon was made of paper and fueled by burning straw and wool.
Hot air balloons have seen many adventures throughout their life, including use in
wartime, high altitude flights, and even a north pole expedition. Modern day nylon fabric balloons, fueled by a controlled propane burner, started being used in 1961, and are still the standard today.

The colorful balloons that can be seen around the world are the inspiration for the Hot Air Balloon quilt block, which is entirely Foundation Paper Pieced, and finishes at 12” x 12”.
The Hot Air Balloon FPP quilt block pattern is free through the month of October when you sign up for my newsletter.
