Ball Drop Quilt Block
Share
The New York City ball drop takes place in Times Square every New Year’s Eve. The ball begins its decent at 11:59pm and takes 60 seconds to reach the bottom, which signifies the beginning of the new year.
The very first ball drop was hosted by the New York Times in 1907, with an iron and wood ball. Throughout its life the ball has seen many iterations, from the original iron and wood, to wrought iron, aluminum, and even Waterford crystals.

The New York City new year's eve ball drop celebration is the inspiration for the Ball Drop quilt block, which is entirely Foundation Paper Pieced, and finishes at 12” x 12”.
The Ball Drop FPP quilt block pattern is free through the month of December when you sign up for my newsletter.
