Niagara Park Quilt Finishes
Share
This week I am hosting the TGIFF (Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday) Party. I'm so excited to share that I finally finished Niagara Park Throw and Mini. I absolutely love the way they turned out.
I finished these quilt tops awhile back and then they just sat in my WIP pile because I didn't have enough backing fabric for them. Pieced backing to the rescue. I think the pieced backs are such a fun little addition and gives the quilts so much more character.
Niagara Park Mini
First up, the Mini, finishing at 37"x37" its the perfect size for a wall hanging or baby quilt. Get the pattern here. I love how the green border ties in with the green sashing around the feature blocks, and the binding is a nice pop that really brings out the bright green in the border and sashing.

For the backing, I was just short on this bright green fabric. When I originally kitted this quilt I cut some of the feature butterfly fabric into binding strips. Since I decided that I didn't want to use them as binding they ended up being extra. By sewing a few into my backing I was able to create the length that I needed. I love how this so easily ties together the front and the back of the quilt.

As for quilting, I originally thought that I would do diagonal cross hatching. But once I got the first set of diagonals finished I loved the way it looked. And I saved myself half the work since I didn't need to quilt in the other direction. I love that the diagonal lines give the quilt some movement. Walking foot straight lines for the win.
Niagara Park Throw
Next, the Throw, finishing at 47"x57" its the perfect size to throw over your lap and snuggle with. Get the pattern here. I have to admit that I prefer the green border on the mini to the purple border on the throw. But the purple gives the quilt top a little bit more of a relaxed look, its not so in your face with pops of colors. So, I do like that it is a bit more soothing. I also used the same purple for the binding for a visually smooth finish.

This time I was just shy of backing fabric widthwise. I had some left over blocks from the front of the quilt, so I sewed them up the middle in a checker pattern, and problem solved. I think I might be addicted to pieced backing now, I want to add them to all my quilts. They don't have to be complicated to be striking.

For the quilting on the Throw I did a horizontal and vertical cross hatch, half an inch from each seamline, giving me a double line cross hatch across the whole quilt. I love that straight lines with a walking foot can come together in so many different ways.
