The Inspiration Behind Slea Head

The Inspiration Behind Slea Head

Many years ago my husband and I had the pleasure of visiting the island country of Ireland. We spent 10 days driving the circumference of the country. While we bypassed the famous Ring of Kerry scenic drive, we had a B&B host tell us we couldn't miss Slea Head Drive, and she was right.

I absolutely loved everything about the Dingle Peninsula in western Ireland, including the quant town of Dingle. And hubby loved the food at the Dingle Fish and chips stand. and Slea Head Drive did not disappoint.

What makes this drive so special is that the road is so narrow that tour buses cannot drive it. If you want to see it you have to drive it yourself. The stunning views along the drive are completely worth it. From rocky seaside cliffs to stone fenced pastures, this drive is captivating.

Once I returned home I knew I wanted to create a quilt that captured the feel of those sheep dotted pastures surrounded by beautiful old stone fences, and the Slea Head quilt pattern was born.

While my first make of this quilt had to be green and grey (of course), I just couldn't stop making this quilt. It is so fun and fast to work up that I had to make it several more time in different colors.
